Venting It Out: I talked and vented about what is stressing me out with a close friend or a family member. First I told them that I need to vent for a max of 5 minutes and to just let it all get out and when my 5 minutes was up to stop me so I don't spend too much time on it. So my friend or family member just sat there and let me ramble on and on about what was stressing me out and they would occasionally nod their head or say yup, yeah, uhuh so I would know, or at least think they were listening.Running/Walking It Out: When my friends or family members weren't around or available when I needed to vent or if I wanted to just deal with the stress on my own I grabbed my iPod and just went for a run or walked around to have some time to myself to relax and think about things or to just clear my mind and distract myself with all the nature around me. Nature and music in my ears helped me come up with ideas and solutions to avoid the stress or conquer it head on, also to just take a deep breathe and clear my mind if I just needed a break from everything.
After doing these stress reduction techniques I felt like myself again and much more relaxed and like I had all the pressure from the stress off my shoulders! Physically I felt like I was able to eat peacefully without feeling nauseous or uncomfortable because I wasn't able to fully enjoy myself. Emotionally I felt good because I was able to connect with myself or another person by allowing myself to express my feelings with myself or others. Spiritually I felt joyful and like I could get through anything and conquer it head on with my beliefs and values. Mentally I felt like I learned a lesson and am able to master any other obstacles that come my way by coming up with a strategic plan to master and conquer my stressor!
I think both of these techniques reduces stress and I now have 2 healthy solutions to conquer my stress and be able to move on and maintain a healthy and happy life!

I definitely agree with working out helps some emotional distress, especially anger. Although venting tends to help more in other facets of feeling...
ReplyDeleteGreat techniques! I have also used both of these methods successfully. I like that there was a time limit on venting. I like venting with a close friend, but I'm sure nobody really wants to hear you complain about something all day. Also, sometimes I've felt that I just kept venting for an extended period. I feel like this keeps the negative thoughts and emotions on my mind, when I should be moving on and thinking about positive things. Physical exertion is also a great way to rid yourself of negativity. I cannot use my energy to think negatively if I have no energy left. Music helps a lot to distract my mind from whatever I'm thinking about. Often times when I'm listening to music I am oblivious to everything around me. (Sorry if I do this to anyone at the WFC!)
ReplyDeletehaha im the exact same way when I'm listening to music!
DeleteI looove that you like to vent it out. I do the exact same thing. I should try the time limit though because sometimes I feel like I talk way too much. Exercising also really helps. It's hard to get up and do it, but afterwards I feel so awesome and happy that I don't know how I am not addicted to it already! Let's get on it:)
ReplyDeleteI like your method ;) going for a walk also helps me to reduce my stress. I also listen to classic music to relax and forget about the problems that I have.
ReplyDeleteHaha i love your first method. im going to have to try venting but giving my self a time limit so i dont dwell.
ReplyDeleteI also like to cruise around my neighborhood whenever I'm feeling stressed or just need a little fresh air. Though, I'm lazy and throw my skates on when I head out. haha
ReplyDeleteThese are the 2 techniques I always use when stressing out and it totally helps. Good music and a run after venting to a friend is perfecto.
ReplyDeleteYour techniques are very helpful to reduce stress. True friends are the best things in life. They care about us and try to help as much as they can. I love running by the beach, it reduces my stress and makes me happy :)
